I planned to use this external hard disk for two purposes. The LED backlight doesn’t look very nice actually, because it doesn’t actually light up the entire button area. The only button is the “one touch” button on the front, which is lit up by a white LED when the hard disk is powered up and also doubles up to indicate hard disk activity. It comes with 1 USB 2.0 port and 2 Firewire 400 ports, all located at the back of the casing. The sides of the casing is a nice brushed metal, and the rest is black plastic.

This makes it not very portable of course, but that’s okay for me because I really just want to leave it on my desktop. This is a typical external 3.5″ hard disk, so it requires its own power supply. Time Machine requires a separate disk to run on, and I’ve not had the chance to turn on Time Machine because I didn’t have a spare external hard disk available until now. I had planned to get an external hard disk for my MacBook to put Time Machine backups on. The 1TB model was selling at only $239 (was $309 the week before at Sim Lim Square). Question Which external hard drive would be the best to work off of daily, plus it needs to be portable.I bought the Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus from Comex last week.

Just for the case, the Maxtor "Software" everyone is talking here of is at (thats the link my Maxtor Manager used when trying to update itself, so one can "intercept" it just looking at the error message (as I did), or, probably, with treh help of firewall logs). >Disk Management", find your drive there (it will have no letter assigned), right click, choose to assign letter, assign one, DONE.Ģ. assigned to the Maxtor external drive was now taken by the new logical drive).ġ. Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some help! Is anyone able to help with this? I've spent some time searching the 'net' for a solution, but can find nothing that seems to be of help. I tried renaming and moving this folder, figuring the drive was looking for it, and might give me a prompt to reinstall the software if it doesn't see it, but no luck.

I assume that these have the password for the drive in them but no executable files are there. I see a folder named Maxtor in the Program Files, but there doesn't appear to be anything except a few text files in there.

It says that the drive contains all the needed software and will install itself when you plug it in, but it doesn't do anything when I plug it in now. I've looked on the Maxtor(Seagatea) site, but nothing about this problem and they have no software to download for that drive outside of backup software and that's not what I need. I've tried uninstalling it and then plugging it back in, but after the computer displaying a message balloon that my new USB storage device is ready for use, it just can't be accessed. It shows up as working correctly in Device Manager, but it doesn't show up in My Computer and I just cannot access it any more! Last week, they had to put a new hard drive in my company laptop computer, and although they said they restored as much of the original drive contents as they could, I can no longer access the Maxtor. I've got a Maxtor OneTouch III Mini external USB drive that I use at work for storing and transporting files.
